Octoberfest!

Hi Everyone, We had a great week!  We enjoyed some tastings from the garden in science today, made seed comparisons of what the entire fifth grade is growing in the garden for seed study, and we are even making garden benches for our school garden!  Check out the photos this weekend for all the cool things your children did. Curriculum Night Please sign up for parent-teacher conferences below.  I am eager to hear your thoughts and have an open dialogue about your child's learning. I will be holding one session in the evening and this will be the common parent-teacher conference night for Burns Park.  I will also hold some during the school day.  If you can make those times, please sign up.  If you absolutely can't make those times, I will offer you a session to meet with me at Argus Farm Stop on Packard Rd.  Thank you for understanding and your support. Happy Autumnal Equinox (Fall)!

Hi Everyone, Happy Fall (Monday) though it certainly still feels like summer!  This week was a fantastic week minus the boiling heat on the penthouse floor. :0) Students are settled in the classroom and routines are established.  Learning is happening each day, and we are enjoying the school day as much as we can.  Students are pushing their thinking and we are having a great time learning.  Check out the Class Photos page for pictures of the week. :0) Volunteer Opportunity This Friday, our class will be helping to build classroom benches in the garden from 1:15-3:00 p.m.  Thanks for the PTO for their generous grant funding, we were able to buy composite benches just like the buddy benches and put them for outdoor seating in the garden.  We are super excited and even more excited to get the kids involved to make them.  They are very easy to make and we only require socket wrenches and rakes to rake the wood chips back.  Please email me and let me know if you can help your child

Hi Everyone, Wow!  What a great week.  I am getting to know all of your children and what can I say, they are amazing!  We are having a great time building our learning community.  We have dived into our curriculum and are learning a lot including science, math, reading, and so much more.  Don't forget to check the blog daily for homework due every day.  Thank you! Headphones/Earbuds Needed Please send your child in with a pair of headphones or earbuds that plug into a computer.  We will be using technology all year and they will need a pair to use at school that can live at school.  If you have extras or would like to send an extra pair in for a few students who don't have them, that would be deeply appreciated. Curriculum Night Reminder Join me on Wednesday, September 17 from 6:40-7:15 p.m. in Room 301 for information about our classroom and curriculum.  I hope you will be able to join me.  This is a time for me to discuss the curriculum.  If you need to talk

First Week Success!

Hi Everyone, We had a great first week!  I have absolutely loved getting to know your child and also getting to see my former students too. We are having fun, we are learning, and we are creating a compassionate learning environment. This week students took the Beginning of the Year math assessment and will start math on Monday, We also started the first 20 days of reading and did some creative writing in their writing journals!  We played a ton and enjoyed morning meeting activities. Students also worked on recording and discussing their hopes and dreams for their classroom, teachers, self, and school.  They worked in small groups and discussed their ideas.  We gathered those ideas on the board, found common themes and used the ideas to come up with a class mission!  I am so impressed with their thoughts and ideas.  They are very insightful and I know this is going to be a very special year filled with growth and wonder.
