One week left!

Hi Everyone,
It is hard to believe that we are coming to the end of the school year.  I appreciate everyone for trying their best during these difficult times but still persevering through our school closure.  I am very proud of my students and can't believe we are coming to the end of the school year.  I hope you have a fantastic summer and come back next year and visit me!

Parents - if you could please send one current picture of your child for me for our end of the year picture to post on the blog for the last week of school I would appreciate it.

For those of you who don't know, I grew tomato plants from seed this year at my home and named a plant after each student.  I asked the students their seating preferences and planted them in my "classroom" garden bed accordingly.  Now, I get to be with them all summer and watch them grow even more!  Check out the pictures of my "students" in their tomato form on the Class Photos page!

Next Week
We have a busy week ahead.  Monday and Tuesday will be spent catching up with incomplete assignments and assignments that need revisions.  Monday, we are meeting and have some surprise special guests joining us.  Each student will need to bring socks and 6 clothes hangers to the meeting.  I know it sounds strange but trust me, it will be worth it!  We will promptly start at 11:00 a.m.  The Google Meet link will be posted in Google Classroom.

I would like to encourage parents if you have a moment this weekend to check in with your child and look at Google Classroom together to make sure things are caught up with.  I am still giving feedback and will continue to do that until Tuesday.  The idea is to do all the revisions, edits, and assignments for a completion grade.  Thank you for any support you can lend.

Students will have Google Classroom Stream post every day just like we have been doing.  There will be assignments but some of it is optional and fun.  There are mandatory assignments too like surveys for the fifth-grade teachers that we want students to fill out.  Wednesday is service day.  Thursday is the slide show, and Friday is GRADUATION!

Graduation!
It’s hard to believe but next week our kids will be getting ready to graduate from Burns Park Elementary School!  Things are still being finalized and are subject to some final tweaks, but here is our current schedule of events:

Thursday, June 11th
9:15 a.m.-10:00 a.m. – Your graduate will receive a delivery (at the address you provided on your Google Form in April) from a parent volunteer, including the instructions on how to access the slideshow).

11:00-11:30 a.m. – As of now, the plan is that the slideshow will stream “live” on Burns Park’s Facebook Page beginning at 11:00 am.  It is approximately 30 minutes long.

Friday, June 12th
9:15-10:00 a.m. – Your graduate will receive a second delivery, including instructions on how to access the ceremony.

11:00 a.m. – As of now, the plan is that the pre-recorded graduation ceremony will stream “live” on Burns Park’s Facebook Page beginning at 11:00 a.m.  We do not know how long the ceremony will last, but we anticipate that it will be no more than 1 hour long.  Again, it is our understanding that you do NOT need a Facebook account to watch the live stream and all family/friends are welcome to join in its viewing.

A FEW NOTES:
If you are NOT going to be in town next Thursday and Friday, PLEASE let either Jenn Monk-Reising (jmonkreising@gmail.com) or Mischa Boardman (mboardman@zausmer.com) know so that your delivery can be held.  The delivery includes perishable items and the graduation-day box should not be left out in the elements or it will be ruined.

The slideshow and the graduation ceremony will remain on the Burns Park Facebook page for 24-48 hours and then they will be removed.  We will share copies of both (likely on a private YouTube link, but this hasn’t been finalized) so that the graduates (and you!) can watch them as many times as you like.

PLEASE take pictures/videos of your graduate opening their deliveries with their special surprises.  You will be able to post these to the Burns Park Facebook page so that we can share in a sense of community surrounding this important milestone in our children’s young lives.

Lastly, if you have any questions – please email Jenn or Mischa.  We are so very excited to see this re-envisioned graduation come to life next week and we hope you are too!

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE FIFTH GRADE PARENTS WHO HELPED WITH PLANNING GRADUATION!
